The Shadwell 20th Lesters – horseracing’s “Oscars” - took place at the Hilton Park Lane, London on Sunday 28th February 2010.
Hosted by TV star, racing fan and racehorse owner Jeremy Kyle and racing presenter Derek Thompson, the evening was attended by over 450 guests. Following a sumptuous three course meal guests were entertained with some highlights of the past 20 years of the Lesters as well as the always popular ‘Best of Thrills and Spills’.
The Champion Jockeys of 2009 led the way with Freddy Tylicki, Aidan Coleman, Ryan Moore and AP McCoy each receiving the award in their respective categories.
Hayley Turner collected her 7th Lester for Lady Jockey of the Year whilst Jimmy McCarthy received his first Lester in the Jump Jockey Special recognition category. ‘Flat Ride of the Year’ and ‘Jump Ride of the Year’ were presented to Tom Queally for his horsemanship on Midday in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf whilst AP McCoy received his 2nd Lester of the night for his fantastic ride on Wichita Lineman at the Cheltenham Festival.

Two recently retired Jockeys were also among the winners – Mick Kinane took the ‘International Jockey of the Year’ award and Dale Gibson the ‘Flat Jockey Special Recognition’.
The biggest cheer of the night however was reserved for Lester Piggott who received a standing ovation when walking up on stage to join other racing greats Jonjo O’Neill, John Francome, Frankie Dettori, Mick Kinane, AP McCoy, Pat Eddery and Joe Mercer for a unique souvenir photo (left).
The event went on well into the early hours with guests enjoying the always popular casino and dancing to a fantastic live band ‘Mixed Feelings’
