What's your perfect night in, and your perfect night out? My perfect night in would be to put the baby to bed, pour a glass of wine and watch a movie with the Mrs. My favourite night out is going to a great seafood restaurant near Orford.
You've picked up a two-day suspension - what are you going to do to entertain yourself? On the first day I would take my wife shopping, but on the second I'd have a round or two of golf. It would have to be in that order, as it would be less expensive that way!
What's your favourite holiday destination? Borneo and Malaysia
Who'd be your ideal three companions for the long drive to Musselburgh? I would take along Jim Davidson for the driving and the jokes; Gordon Ramsey for the road rage; and Cat Deeley . . . er . . . because she's a Brummie.
What CDs would you keep in the glove compartment for when the conversation dries up? Fine Young Cannibals and UB40
Who are your biggest heroes - in and out of racing? Outside racing I would have to say Tiger Woods. The man is truly brilliant at what he does, and is simply a legend. Lester Piggott is hero of mine, as he is racing. If anyone is discussing racing, Lester has to be mentioned.
What things excite you - and what do you find a turnoff? Seeing Birmingham City score is always exciting, as it doesn't happen very often. Aston Villa scoring is a massive turnoff!
What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you in the course of your work? I don't know about work, but I can tell you about a prank that a mate played on me. He told the Mrs that a girl who was pregnant was demanding maintenance from me! I was in the bath at the time, and my wife came running in with the newspaper, waving it at me. I didn't have a clue what was going on! I can't tell you who the mate is, though.
If you could change one thing in racing, what would it be? I would get rid of Sunday racing because I think it should only be there for the top racing. I feel that certain people in the racing industry have abused the situation.
If you hadn't been a jockey, what would you like to have done? When I was younger, I always wanted to be a golfer, but I was never good enough. Unless they were to let me play off a handicap, I would never have made it.
Do you ever read the Betfair forum? No. I have never read it, but I have heard some of the lads speaking about it.
What's the daftest question you've ever been asked by a journalist? A couple of weeks back at Redcar, it was raining heavily, and I came in from one ride covered in mud from head to toe. Three different people asked me seriously, ‘What's the ground like?' I just couldn't believe it!
What are the best and worst rides you have ever given a horse? The worst ride was a long time ago, Battleship Bruce at Lingfield. I was a long way clear and got caught on the line. My best ride was probably Confidential Lady in the French Oaks at Chantilly. But I like to think all of my winners were good rides!
What's the biggest regret of your career? I have been very lucky in the sport and so it would be wrong to say that I regret anything.
