Inside Information
“Inside Information is information about the likely participation or the likely performance of a horse in a race which is known by the Owner, Trainer, Rider, Stable Employee or their Service Providers as a result of acting as such, and is not information in the Public Domain.”
It is acceptable for Jockeys to give information or express opinions in TV/Radio interviews, Newspaper interviews/columns, to corporate sponsorship/hospitality groups and at stable yard open days. Also acceptable are conversations with Owners as part of their day to day business.
Unacceptable uses of Inside Information include communicating it directly or indirectly to any other person (other than the Owner or the Owner’s representative), for any material reward, gift, favour or benefit in kind.
Jockeys must not have any involvement with a tipping service, and should not speak to Owners about any other horse they ride, without the permission of that Owner.

Phone billing requests
General Duties of Riders are covered under rule (D) 34.3 & 34.4
The Jockey must, on request, provide the BHA with full details of all calls made during the Restricted Period (between half an hour before the start of the first race, and the start of the last race) The itemised statemtent must include full details of all outgoing calls and text messages.
Jockeys may be required to provide full itemised phone billings, for outgoing calls and text messages, as part of an investigation, or as part of a random phone check. For this reason, Jockeys should always have itemised billings from their provider and retain them for their records.
Random phone checks are regularly undertaken, including blanket phone checks where every Jockey who rode at a selected meetings will be checked. These requests will be made via a letter which will be sent by Recorded Delivery.
Jockeys have 28 days to respond to these requests, and failure to do so will result in them being referred to the BHA Compliance department.
Penalties for non-production of itemised phone billing, when requested, range from £250 - £5,000, and/or suspension of their licence for between 5 days – 28 days, and they will still be required to produce their phone billings.
Penalties for a Jockey using their phone when prohibited from doing so (e.g sending a text whilst on the racecourse), range from £350 - £2,000 and/or suspension of their licence for between 7 days – 1 year
